‘You really are a Dem’: Conservative rep’s anti-Johnson meme ignites MAGA rage

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) has a decidedly right-wing resumé, from his work with the Tea Party movement to a 100 percent rating from the Gun Owners of America and the Republican Liberty Caucus. But because he doesn’t rubber-stamp everything that President Donald Trump favors, many MAGA Republicans are attacking him as everything from “woke” to a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

Trump was furious with Massie for voting “no” on his “big, beautiful bill.” Now, angry MAGA Republicans are lashing out at Massie because of a Wednesday, August 6 post on X, formerly Twitter.

In the post, Massie poked fun at fellow Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), over their response to the Jeffrey Epstein case. Referencing Democrats in the Texas State Legislature who have fled to Washington, DC to express their opposition to Gov. Greg Abbott’s gerrymandering proposal, Massie posted a photo with the words “Democrats leaving Texas to protect their district” — and contrasted it with a photo of Johnson that reads “Republicans leaving D.C. to protect the Epstein files.”

Massie’s post is generating a lot of discussion on X.

X user Mr. Conte posted, “Man you really are a Dem.”

Massie called Mr. Conte out, posting his scores from right-wing groups — including 96 percent from Conservative Review, 93 percent from the Club For Growth and 92 percent from the American Conservative Union.

Columnist Emilia Henderson responded to Massie’s tweets by posting a photo that mocks U.S. Attorney General Bondi’s handling of the Epstein case and reads, “The Epstein files are on my desk, and they’re gone.”
