Donald Trump’s trade adviser Peter Navarro invited mockery by suggesting the president should win Nobel prizes for his diplomacy and economic policies.
The senior counselor for trade and manufacturing applauded Trump’s deals Thursday morning in an appearance on Maria Bartiromo’s show on Fox Business, saying the president’s tariff threats had resulted in foreign investment in American industries.
“You know, a lot of people talk about Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Navarro told Bartiromo. “I’m thinking that since he’s basically taught the world trade economics, he might be up for the Nobel in economics.”
Economists remain doubtful that Trump’s trade war will benefit the U.S. and generally agree it raises costs for consumers. Social media users savaged Navarro as shamelessly sucking up to the president on television.
“How about the Nobel Prize in Literature too, on the basis of the tariff letters?” posted Simon Lester, founder of WorldTradeLaw.net.
“A lot of people are saying that Trump deserves the Nobel Prize in Literature for his beautiful birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein,” added Bluesky user Spenol.
“Democrats should hold a press conference to announce they’re nominating Donald Trump for the Nobel Prize in Pedophilia,” said historian Kevin Kruse.
“Also the Nobel Prize for Fraud,” replied historian Lou Roper.
“They’re all so … pathetic,” added Bluesky user So Sayeth Black Lord.
“Trump ain’t winning any Nobel prize, you complete hack,” said Bluesky user William Jones.
“Let’s just give Trump a Nobel Prize for everything & send him to the Moon as his ultimate reward,” posted Salon’s Paul Rosenberg.
“Just give him all the Nobel prizes already, plus Olympic medals for every sport,” posted law professor Steve Peers.
