Trump admin hit with court block at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

A federal judge has put a stop to any additions to the Florida Everglades immigrant detention facility that Republicans have named Alligator Alcatraz.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Mary Williams halted operations at the facility for two weeks, citing environmental impact testimony that has been presented over the past two days, reported ABC News.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and President Donald Trump praised the detention camp for being erected in just eight days. Trump went so far as to say he wanted it to become a model for other states. DeSantis agreed that another one was going to be built.

Reports have spread from migrants, their families and even corrections officers, who call the tents oversized dog kennels and cited “inhumane” conditions.

The hearing is set to continue on Tuesday, but the 14-day pause aims to protect the Everglades ecosystem until a decision is made.
