‘Toxic force’: Top White House aides uneasy about MAGA activist’s influence over Trump

Laura Loomer — a far‑right Make America Great Again (MAGA) agitator defined by her Islamophobia and zealous crusade for ideological purity — has become widely regarded as “toxic” even among President Donald Trump’s closest aides, according to a report by The New York Times published Monday.

According to The Times, Loomer’s brand of provocateur politics continues to resonate with the president, despite widespread unease among his aides. The report noted that on one pivotal occasion in late March and early April, she channeled that reputation into actual influence inside the Oval Office.

It began when Loomer posted on the social platform X, accusing several National Security Council aides of disloyalty to Trump —singling out deputy national security adviser Alex Wong for his past work on Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign and his wife’s role in prosecuting Jan. 6 defendants and clerking for Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Her posts drew Trump’s attention; he summoned her to the White House.

On April 2, according to The Times, Loomer entered the Oval Office holding a thick folder of allegations. Seated with Trump at the Resolute Desk, she laid out her findings — calling out Wong and about a dozen other aides — while administration officials including national security adviser Michael Waltz listened.

At the close of her presentation, the president “barked to Waltz, ‘I want all of them fired.’” He dismissed the group and even hugged Loomer on her departure, per the report.

While Wong survived, six officials named in Loomer’s dossier were soon ousted.

Two months later, Loomer attempted to join Trump at the Kennedy Center’s VIP section during the opening night of Les Misérables on June 11 — but was turned away by White House staff and security. That did little to diminish her prominence on social media, the report said.

On X, she even posted a grotesque joke about alligators devouring Hispanic migrants fleeing the so‑called “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center: “The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we start now” (the estimated Hispanic population in the U.S. numbers around 65 million).

In an interview with The New York Times, Loomer dismissed critics who labeled her a fringe interloper. “My point of access to the White House is Donald Trump. And that’s really hard for people to comprehend,” she said.

Despite her influence, many in Trump’s inner circle view her as dangerously unpredictable. The report further said that officials describe Loomer as “an uncontrollable and toxic force whose deep loyalty to Trump is tempered by her tendency to turn on almost anyone, even her allies.”
