MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow had a lot to say on Monday night about Attorney General Pam Bondi’s apparent flip-flop on the Jeffrey Epstein case.
President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice concluded that there is no evidence that Epstein kept a “client list” or evidence to suggest Epstein was murdered in his jail cell, two claims that have fueled conspiracy theories for years. Trump’s DOJ drew this conclusion even though the administration promised to release additional details about Epstein’s case to the public back in February.
That contradiction didn’t sit well with Maddow. She played a clip of Bondi claiming the Epstein files were sitting on her desk to review.
“Sitting on my desk right now!” Maddow repeated. “Says Donald Trump’s handpicked Attorney General.”
The DOJ’s conclusions in the Epstein case drew swift backlash from the MAGA world, which framed it as a betrayal.
“These guys have been hyping the Jeffrey Epstein story for years,” Maddow continued. She then played a 2023 clip of Deputy F.B.I. Director Don Bongino on his eponymous radio show, where he insinuated that there were a lot of people who could be implicated by the Epstein case.
“According to the F.B.I. and the DOJ, there is nothing at all to the Jeffrey Epstein story,” Maddow said sarcastically. “There will be no more information. Please stop talking about it.”
“Client list? What client list?” Maddow continued.
