President Donald Trump demanded more resignations on Friday afternoon as news broke that a member of the Federal Reserve had abruptly resigned.
Earlier in the day, Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler said she would step down from her position on the Board of Governors. Her resignation will be effective Aug. 8.
Kugler was appointed in 2023 by then-President Joe Biden. Her term was set to expire in January.
Her exit opens the door for Trump to nominate a replacement for a key policymaking role at the central bank.
“It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,” Kugler said in a statement. “I am especially honored to have served during a critical time in achieving our dual mandate of bringing down prices and keeping a strong and resilient labor market.”
Her resignation comes as Trump has complained for months about Fed Chair Jerome Powell. That trend continued on Friday afternoon, with Trump again taking aim at Powell on his Truth Social platform.
“‘Too Late’ Powell should resign, just like Adriana Kugler, a Biden Appointee, resigned. She knew he was doing the wrong thing on Interest Rates. He should resign, also!”
