‘Practically giddy’: Dems see one man as key to smashing GOP control of House

One man has Democrats “practically giddy” about their chances of flipping control of the House in 2026 as a single state with four vulnerable Republican seats emerges as the key to victory.

The GOP’s razor-thin 219-212 majority has Republicans sweating bullets as Democrats zero in on Scott Perry, Ryan Mackenzie, Rob Bresnahan, and Brian Fitzpatrick—all representing Pennsylvania districts that could spell doom for Republican control, the Washington Post reported Monday.

“They are critical to control of the House,” Austin Davis, Pennsylvania’s Democratic lieutenant governor, told the Post. “It is not hyperbole to say whoever wins or loses these races will decide who is controlling Congress.”

Perry, the former House Freedom Caucus chair, faces challenger Janelle Stelson, who’s already drawing blood over his support for Trump’s brutal tax cuts and Medicaid slashes. “This is a real problem. And Scott Perry did all of that,” Stelson declared. “The story of Scott Perry just keeps getting worse.”

But it’s Governor Josh Shapiro’s potential reelection bid that has Democrats practically salivating. The popular governor crushed all four contested districts by double digits in 2022, and down-ballot Democrats are chomping at the bit to ride his coattails.

“Democrats are practically giddy about the idea that the governor who won all four contested districts by double digits in 2022 will be topping the ticket in 2026,” the Post reported.

“I’m excited to have him on the same ticket as me next year,” gushed Bob Harvie, challenging Fitzpatrick. “I certainly would never want to run against him.”

Republicans are desperately trying to maintain their grip, with all four incumbents raising over $1 million. But with Trump’s tariffs hammering local economies and the party’s Medicaid cuts threatening to boot 10 million Americans off healthcare, even GOP operatives are privately admitting they’re facing an uphill battle in the Keystone State, the Post wrote.
