A new illegal-alien detention center is opening in Indiana, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday.
“Coming soon to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer,” Noem wrote on the social media platform X. “Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds. Thanks to [Gov. Mike Braun] for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country.”
“If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer,” Noem said. The name of the new facility is a nod to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosts the Indy 500.
The facility will be housed in the Miami Correctional Facility in Miami County, Indiana, Fox News first reported.
“We are proud to work with President [Donald] Trump and Secretary Noem as they remove the worst of the worst with this innovative partnership,” Braun, a Republican, told Fox. “Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states.”
The announcement of the new detention facility comes about a month after the Trump administration partnered with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to open what was dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” in the Florida Everglades.
“Indiana is proud to do our part to support President Trump’s mass deportation efforts,” Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., wrote on X following the announcement.
To avoid arrest and detention at a facility like the Speedway Slammer, Noem is encouraging illegal aliens present in the U.S. to “self-deport now using the CBP Home App.” CBP stands for Customs and Border Protection.
Those who self-deport, and prove to have done so, will receive $1,000 to help them reestablish a life back in their home country, and may also have the opportunity to legally return to the U.S. in the future, according to DHS.
