‘Mediocrities’: Nancy Mace brutally mocked after scheduling first ‘lion’s den’ town hall

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) made a major announcement early Monday morning, August 4: She is seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination in her state. And it didn’t take Mace’s critics, a combination of Democrats and right-wing Never Trump conservatives, long to attack her and note how much of a flip-flopper she has been: Mace was highly critical of President Donald Trump following the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building, but she later went full MAGA and often resorts to performative stunts to express her devotion to him.

Mace promoted her gubernatorial run by holding a town hall, which she equated with entering a “lion’s den.” And that analogy is bringing the congresswoman some biting criticism and mockery on X, formerly Twitter.

NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin, on X, reported, “Rep Nancy Mace, holding her 1st town hall since announcing her run for Governor (and one of her only town halls this year), says she will ‘walk into every lions den’ and talk to anyone The event is ticketed (free) but those who aren’t supportive of Mace are being asked to leave.”

But Mace, according to Tsirkin, made sure the event had a MAGA flavor and didn’t encourage other points of view.

Tsirkin tweeted, “Kathi Hunt, an Independent who voted for Trump in 2016, says she didn’t clap and ‘boo’d once’ during Mace’s remarks She wasn’t asked to leave, but ‘felt uncomfortable’ ‘Everyone in there is clearly MAGA. And if you’re not, you’re not welcome,’ Kathi and her husband told me.”

Democratic insider Aaron Fritschner, known for his work as deputy chief of staff for Rep. Don Beyer (D-Virginia), attacked Mace’s town hall as a joke — arguing that she clearly wanted to shield herself from tough questions.

Fritschner tweeted, “lol- Nancy Mace took just 10 minutes of questions at a ‘town hall’ in a deep red part of her district while asking people who don’t support her to leave and called it going into the ‘lion’s den.’ There are plenty of mediocrities in Congress but few are this dramatic about it.”
