MAGA television personalities speculated that “cloud seeding” could have caused the deadly floods in Texas while lashing out at criticism of “climate deniers.”
Right-wing journalist Ben Bergquam brought up the topic of cloud seeding at a press conference on Monday.
“Now, I did ask the question this morning, Steve, because — and again, this, to some people, is out on a limb,” he later told Real America’s Voice host Steve Gruber. “But I think it’s a legitimate question. There is cloud seeding that goes on in Texas.”
“And so they’ve been doing that. Now there’s a question of, did that have any impact?” he asked.
“It’s been one of the worst natural disasters in Texas in a long time,” Gruber replied. “But this idea you can turn around and blame people, or because there are white kids that voted MAGA and don’t believe in climate change, and all these other horrible things. I mean, you know, this stuff is just floating around out there. Climate deniers that voted for Donald Trump, they deserve this. Nobody deserves this.”
The host agreed with Bergquam’s concerns about cloud seeding.
“I understand cloud seeding is there when you have drought years and so forth, but could it have played a role?” he pondered. “I think it’s a legitimate question, too, Ben.”
Over the weekend, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she would introduce legislation to prevent weather modification.
“I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense,” she wrote on X. “We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geoengineering.”
“This is not normal,” the lawmaker added. “No person, company, entity, or government should ever be allowed to modify our weather by any means possible!!”
