Jared Wise, who was tapped by the Trump administration to serve as an investigator in the Justice Department, can be heard urging a mob to “kill” police officers in a newly unearthed video recording during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in Washington, D.C.
“You guys are disgusting, you are the Nazi, you are the Gestapo, you can’t see it because you’re chasing your pension, right?” Wise can be heard shouting at police officers during the riot in a video obtained by NPR, and published Thursday.
The video, which NPR correspondent Tom Dreisbach writes had “has not previously been published,” was one of thousands that was taken the day the Capitol was descended upon at the behest of President Donald Trump.
Wise was ultimately indicted on felony charges related to his participation in the riot, including a charge for assault, though was later pardoned by Trump on his first day back at the White House, as were a number of other individuals criminally charged for their role in the attack on the Capitol.
“Shame on you!” Wise could be heard shouting in the video. “F— them! Kill them, kill them, get them, get them!”
Responding to NPR’s reporting, a DOJ spokesperson told the outlet that Wise was “a valued member of the Justice Department,” and that the agency does “appreciate his contributions to our team.”
Prior to his participation in the Capitol riot, Wise was a supervisory special agent with the FBI, having worked for the agency from 2004 to 2017, according to the DOJ. He was one of more than 1,000 individuals arrested for crimes related to the breaching of the capitol.
Beyond the violent threats, Wise had also illegally entered the U.S. Capitol building, according to his indictment, before exiting through a window ten minutes later. At his trial, Wise apologized for threatening police officers, calling his own actions “careless.”
“Those are terrible things to say,” Wise testified, according to the transcripts of his trial. “Of course. I shouldn’t say those things. I think I was careless and used, like, terrible words when I was angry.”
