Judge hit with misconduct complaint by DOJ after speaking out against Trump ‘crisis’

The Department of Justice filed a formal complaint against a federal judge who spoke out against the Trump administration, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Monday.

The complaint is directed at Chief Justice James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Boasberg is currently overseeing several high-profile cases related to President Donald Trump’s deportation schemes, according to media reports.

“Today at my direction, @TheJusticeDept filed a misconduct complaint against U.S. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg for making improper public comments about President Trump and his Administration,” Bondi wrote in a post on X.

“These comments have undermined the integrity of the judiciary, and we will not stand for that,” the post continued.

Fox News reported that Bondi’s comments refer to statements Boasberg made during a recent public appearance at the Judicial Conference of the United States. While attending the conference, Boasberg allegedly said Trump could trigger a “constitutional crisis” by “[disregarding] rulings of federal courts.”

Boasberg has threatened to hold the Trump administration in contempt for disobeying his court orders regarding deportation procedures for migrants.

“Taken together, Judge Boasberg’s words and deeds violate Canons of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, and, erode public confidence in judicial neutrality, and warrant a formal investigation,” the complaint reads in part.

The complaint was filed at a time when Bondi’s relationship with the MAGA base appears to be fractured. Some MAGA faithful have called for her to resign in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein case saga.
