Illinois governor dispatches state police to protect Texas Dem lawmakers after bomb threat

Texas Democrats stashed in Illinois received a bomb threat, and the governor there is dispatching police for protection.

On Wednesday morning, Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) announced on X that he was aware of the threats made against the Texas officials and intends to hold those responsible “accountable.”

“I have instructed Illinois State Police to ensure we maintain public safety,” he said.

Texas state Rep. John Bucy III said on X that the hotel had a bomb threat and everyone was evacuated. “This is what happens when Republican state leaders publicly call for us to be ‘hunted down.’”

Texas Democrats left the state to block a quorum in the legislature, while Republicans are attempting to conduct mid-decade redistricting of congressional maps to add more Republicans to Congress. Political analysts expect they will lose seats given the lack of popularity among Republicans and President Donald Trump. So, their only option to add to their slim majority is to redraw the lines for 38 districts to eliminate Democrats.
