A New York Times writer who has covered Donald Trump for decades slapped down one of the president’s latest claims about the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Trump recently claimed he was unaware of disgraced Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell being transferred from her maximum security prison to a minimum security facility in Texas. Maggie Haberman, author of “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America,” said it was “hard to see” how that claim was true, given the numerous layers of approvals needed to make such a transfer happen.
“What do you make of Trump’s denials?” Collins asked Haberman on her show, “The Source with Kaitlan Collins.” “He says he doesn’t know what [Deputy Attorney General] Todd Blanche and Maxwell talked about, but he also told me yesterday that he was not aware of Maxwell being moved.”
“I was surprised by it,” Haberman said. “It’s certainly possible, but it’s hard to believe given how closely the DOJ has been working with this White House and how many tabs are being kept related to this investigation.”
“It would be much harder to see Ghilaine Maxwell being moved to this much less secure prison facility without the President of the United States knowing.”
