GOP-controlled House committee subpoenas over Epstein case leave out one notable witness

The BBC reports the GOP led House Oversight Committee has demanded testimony from former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and eight former law enforcement officials.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky), who is chairman of the House Oversight Committee, issued the subpoenas on Tuesday in a push to gather more information regarding deceased child predator Jeffrey Epstein.

“The committee is looking for more information about Epstein’s history, after President Donald Trump’s administration decided against releasing more federal files on the late financier,” BBC reports. “That decision sparked outrage among Trump’s supporters and some liberals, as many believe the files include a ‘client list’ of famous men affiliated with Epstein.

The BBC reports the committee also subpoenaed the Department of Justice for records related to Epstein, and that former Attorney General Merrick Garland has also received notice from the committee. Also included in Comer’s subpoenas are both attorneys general during Trump’s first term in office, Jeff Sessions and William Barr.

Former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, will also be compelled to testify before the committee, according to the BBC, but it is not clear if the subpoena targets will appear before the committee and, or whether their testimony will be made public. However, former Trump Labor Secretary Alex Acosta — who was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida who brokered a controversial plea agreement with Epstein in 2008 — was not among those subpoenaed.

The hearings come after U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News a few months ago that Epstein’s client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review.” She later amended that claim, saying she’d meant to say Epstein’s DOJ file, not his client list, was what sat was on her desk. She also said there was no client list, sending MAGA into a fury.

Now multiple members of the House Republican caucus are breaking from President Donald Trump and demanding more information into a case that could draw Trump further into entanglement with his former friend.
