In the fourth year of the war in Ukraine, its population has had enough.
With millions having fled the country, with more than a million dead or seriously wounded, hundreds of thousands AWOL, and just as many hiding in their homes from forced mobilization, the citizenry has reached a breaking point.
Now, a new poll shows that nearly seven in 10 Ukrainians now say they want a negotiated end to the war with Russia.
The new Gallup polling, originally reported by Semafor, comes as US President Donald J. Trump has confirmed that he will meet Russia’s Vladimir Putin next week – probably in the UAE.

Semafor reported:
“Support among Ukrainians for continuing the war until a potential victory has plummeted to 24%, down from 73% in 2022, the poll found. Ukrainians’ views of US leadership have also tanked; just 16% approved in the polling conducted last month, down from 66% in 2022.
Despite that low view of Trump-era Washington, 70% of Ukrainians continue to see the US as playing ‘a significant role’ in any negotiations with Putin.”
According to the latest Gallup polling data, only 24% of Ukrainians want to fight “until Ukraine wins the war” while 69% want to negotiate an end as soon as possible.

From the Gallup website:
“Most Ukrainians now favor ending the war with Russia through negotiations, as support for fighting until victory has dropped sharply since the early days of the conflict. Although their hopes for joining NATO and the European Union have faded and approval of U.S. leadership has plummeted, Ukrainians still see the EU, U.K. and U.S. as key to ending the war. Yet, most doubt that will happen anytime soon.
More than three years into the war, Ukrainians’ support for continuing to fight until victory has hit a new low. In Gallup’s most recent poll of Ukraine — conducted in early July — 69% say they favor a negotiated end to the war as soon as possible, compared with 24% who support continuing to fight until victory.
This marks a nearly complete reversal from public opinion in 2022, when 73% favored Ukraine fighting until victory and 22% preferred that Ukraine seek a negotiated end as soon as possible.”
