Fox News Leads July TV Ratings While CNN Hits Worst July Record

Fox News Channel continued to dominate all TV networks in July, with CNN having its lowest July in history among the 25-54 age demographic, according to Fox News, citing data from Nielsen Media Research.

Fox News drew an average of 1.525 million viewers in July across total day, followed by MSNBC with 530,000 viewers, and CNN with 370,000 viewers. Moreover, Fox News’ primetime ratings (8-11 pm) in July averaged 2.4 million total viewers, while MSNBC averaged 865,000 viewers and CNN drew only 497,000 viewers.

According to Nielsen, Fox News has been number one in cable news for 53 consecutive months, topping the combined viewership of MSNBC and CNN.

Fox News’ domination in July extended beyond cable news.

Overall, Fox News’ average of 2.4 million primetime viewers in July made it the highest-rated network on all television, outpacing NBC with 2.1 million viewers, CBS and ABC with 2 million viewers each.

Furthermore, the network delivered 2.8 million average viewers during weekday prime time, leading NBC with 2.4 million viewers, CBS with 2 million viewers, and ABC with 2 million viewers. This despite Fox News being available in only roughly half the number of homes as the broadcast networks. (63 million American homes versus 120 million homes, according to Mediate.)

From sunrise to late night, specific Fox News shows fared well against their network competition.

Fox News’ morning show “FOX and Friends” had a total average viewership of 1.3 million and 169,000 in the 25-54 age demographic. The show outperformed the network morning shows, dominating “CBS Mornings” in 21 major markets, ABC’s “Good Morning America” in 14 markets, and NBC’s “TODAY” in eight markets.

Fox News’ “The Five” maintained a strong 3.5 million viewers and 378,000 in the 25-54 demo, surpassing CBS’ reality hit “Big Brother.”

“Special Report with Bret Baier” beat its network news competition, garnering more than 2.6 million viewers and 288,000 in the 25-54 demo, leading CBS’ “Evening News,” ABC’s “World News Tonight” and NBC’s “Nightly News.”

In prime time, Fox News’ “Hannity” continued to dominate its competition, drawing 2.7 million viewers each night and 302,000 in the 25-54 age demographic.

Fox News’ late-night hit “Gutfeld!” kept growing in July, averaging 2.9 million viewers, 327,000 in the 25-54 demo, and 207,000 in the 18-49 age demographic. “Gutfeld!” dominated all of late-night television, including CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” with 2.2 million viewers—which CBS recently canceled, effective in May 2026.

“Gutfeld!” also outpaced ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with 1.1 million viewers, NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” with 1 million viewers, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” with 713,000 viewers, and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with 507,000 viewers.
