Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell raged against Democratic lawmakers Tuesday for what he argued was their “political violence just in the form of speech,” claiming them to be “acting like kids.”
Some Democratic lawmakers have been more outspoken in recent weeks over President Donald Trump’s efforts to consolidate power, be it over the judicial system by appointing a judge who openly encouraged disregarding court orders, or over the legislative branch by clawing back funding already appropriated by Congress.
Among the most notable Democratic lawmakers turning up the heat against Trump are Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who caused a MAGA uproar over calling Trump a “wannabe Hitler,” and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who called the president a “rapist.”
Speaking with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, Caldwell said some Democratic lawmakers’ rhetoric has gone too far, and equated Democrats’ vocal opposition to Trump to real-world political violence.
“Many other Democrats have said things that have been what I would think is political violence just in the form of speech, because people can take those words and act on them, and we’ve seen it actually happen, President Trump being an example of that,” Caldwell said, who in the past has championed free speech, saying in 2022 that “we don’t need to censor views we disagree with.”
Caldwell also argued that Democrats’ vocal opposition was largely performative and without substance, and was counter to what “the American people want.”
“Instead of them trying to govern… they’re going and acting like kids, honestly!” he said. “It’s viral versus policy is what we’re seeing. They’re having whatever camera they can put in their face, cell phone or otherwise, to come up with something ridiculous that could potentially go viral instead of acting in alignment with what the American people want.”
Despite Caldwell’s claim that Democratic lawmakers’ recent surge of outspokenness was counter to the wishes of their constituents, recent polls have shown that Democratic voters overwhelmingly indicated that they’d like to see their representatives get more aggressive in fighting Trump’s agenda.
Faulkner was quick to praise Caldwell’s assessment, adding that Democratic lawmakers’ opposition, in its current, heightened form, was “unsustainable.”
“It is unsustainable as a society to have members of a party and supporters of that party say ‘go out and pretend like you were hurt by the other side’ so that they can have also a reason to get aggressive with MAGA and supporters of the president,” Faulkner said.
