Elon Musk on Saturday announced the formation of a new political party, which many saw as a move that could substantially hurt the Republican party.
The richest man in the world announced over the weekend that he has officially formed a new political party to challenge Republicans and Democrats alike. Tech CEO Elon Musk had teased several times the creation of a new party, even opening up a poll on X to see what his users think about the idea.
Musk said on the Fourth of July holiday, “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” He then asked, “Should we create the America Party?” Now, Musk announced the results of the poll: 65% said yes while 35% said no.
After declaring the creation of the America Party, users on Musk’s own social media site, X, reacted quickly.
Liberal influencer Harry Sisson flagged the news on X on Saturday.
“BREAKING: Elon Musk says he’s officially launching the ‘America Party’ in a dig at Trump,” the Democrat wrote. “I don’t know a single Democrat who would join this party. However, there are probably plenty of Republicans who will, which hurts the GOP. I say go for it!”
Gays For Trump also acknowledge the move would hurt the GOP.
“The America Party already exists. It’s called MAGA,” the conservative group wrote. “Elon Musk is doing this for one reason and one reason only. To hurt Donald Trump. No Democrats will join his party but plenty of Republicans will.”
Protect Kamala Harris, which provides political commentary, said, “Elon Musk has announced plans to form a third political party, the ‘America Party.’ This could severely hurt the GOP’s prospects in the 2026 midterm elections.”
Conservative influencer Carlos Turcios chimed in:
“Musk loves Democrats, I guess. This party will hurt Republicans and Vance in 2028. Someone needs to talk to Musk.”
