MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace opened the Monday episode of “Deadline: White House” by asking her audience to solve a riddle: “What do windmills, a radio show host, a former American president and the Washington Commanders all have in common?”
Wallace went on to explain that all of those things have been the focus of President Donald Trump’s “rage” as he “tries anything and everything to distract us from the furor over the [Jeffrey] Epstein case.” She added that Trump has so far failed to contain the fallout from his handling of the unreleased evidence from the 2019 investigation into the convicted child sex offender, and has “weakened his grip on his own base of supporters.”
She began by playing a clip of Breakfast Club host Charlamagne tha God talking to Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara, on Fox News, which prompted the president’s latest social media rant against the radio host. Charlamagne (who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024) told Lara Trump that he predicted the rift within MAGA over how Trump has addressed Epstein could end up consuming the Republican Party, giving an opportunity for the party’s traditional conservatives to win back control over the GOP.

Charlamagne, of course, also poking at Donald Trump’s soft spot, his greatest political weakness,” Wallace observed, noting that many of Trump’s senior-level appointees like FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino were vocal about their desire to see the full Epstein files released to the public. She then recounted multiple instances of Trump unsuccessfully attempting to redirect the national conversation away from Epstein.
“In the last couple of weeks, he’s threatened to strip Rosie O’Donnell of her citizenship — something he has no right to do. He has accused President Barack Obama of treason over the Russia investigation, using accusations debunked by his own secretary of state, as well as the special counsel appointed by attorney general Bill Barr,” Wallace said.
“He’s also demanded that the Washington Commanders and the Cleveland Guardians changed their names back. He has lashed out at Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert, and we could go on and on,” she continued. “Importantly, though, not a single one of those attacks on our wall of rage has succeeded in steering the conversation or moving the poll numbers away from his handling of the Epstein case.”
Before Wallace began her interview with NBC reporter Vaughn Hillyard, she piggybacked off of her opening segment by asking him: “Who’s going to tell him his desperation is showing?”
