‘Henchmen!’ Far-right MAGA ally demands more scalps after Trump ousts IRS chief

A far-right MAGA ally wasn’t satisfied with just one major Trump administration firing on Friday.

President Donald Trump is firing former Missouri Rep. Billy Long, whom he nominated to be commissioner of the IRS, The New York Times reported Friday afternoon. Trump had nominated Billy Long to be commissioner of the agency. Long was confirmed by the Senate and ceremonially sworn in just last month.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will serve as acting commissioner until the administration finds a suitable replacement, according to the report.

Laura Loomer, a far-right political activist and conspiracy theorist known for her provocative stunts, took to X to call on Bessent to go even further.

“Now that Billy Long has been removed as IRS commissioner, when is @SecScottBessent going to fire all of the Lois Lerner holdovers who are still in senior roles at the IRS? Why won’t Bessent fire Obama’s henchmen at the IRS who continue to target and maliciously audit GOP donors and nonprofits?”

Loomer claimed the White House received a list of Obama-era holdovers at the IRS last month along with “examples of how they have targeted conservatives.”

“Yet the people whose names were submitted are still employed at the IRS. Why? It appears that Bessent has acted to protect Lois Lerner’s hard left deputies and mentees more than the many Americans whose rights have been repeatedly violated by a rogue agency,” she said. “Hard left activists at IRS and Bessent’s meddling inside IRS is one of the main reasons why he and @elonmusk got in a fight by the way. It was over the poor personnel decisions at IRS.”

Musk and Bessent clashed primarily over the leadership and management of the IRS under Trump’s administration, according to reports. Musk, as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, tried to install Gary Shapley as acting IRS commissioner without Bessent’s approval. Bessent opposed the move and wanted his deputy, Michael Faulkender, installed instead.
