‘Not exactly’: CNN’s Kaitlan Collins smacks down MAGA lawmaker’s ‘promises kept’ boast

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins issued a harsh reminder to Republicans that President Donald Trump isn’t keeping as many promises as he’s claimed.

Collins discussed a new report from The Washington Post on her show “The Source” that details Trump backing away from a campaign promise he made to make in vitro fertilization courses more widely available. Collins then played a montage of instances where Trump made such a promise to voters.

In one clip from August 2024 in Porterville, Michigan, Trump told rally attendees that the “government will pay for, or your insurance companies will be mandated to pay for, all costs associated with IVE treatment.”

He made the same claim during an interview with Fox News later that month.

“I’m the father of IVF,” Trump boasted during a town hall in October 2024.

However, the second Trump administration has not publicly released a plan to make IVF free to force insurance companies to cover the treatments, Collins said. Instead, Trump has only signed an executive order directing certain agencies to come up with policy recommendations about expanding access to IVF.

Some of Trump’s supporters, like Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL), have characterized the move as “promises made, promises kept.”

“Maybe not exactly,” Collins retorted in response to the montage.

Collins then reported that the Trump administration has said it can’t pass the law unilaterally and would need an act of Congress.
