It’d be a shame if the public sabotaged the White House’s big Christmas plans, a New Republic writer sarcastically warned Monday afternoon.

First lady Melania Trump plans to host open auditions for the White House’s Christmas celebration, Malcolm Ferguson of The New Republic flagged. Ferguson then shared a method that critics of President Donald Trump could weaponize to troll the MAGA leader.

“Now we’re not saying that you should apply, get selected, and then not show up on the date of the actual performance … but if you wanted to, it would be pretty easy,” he said.

Officials said in a news release that Americans in every state are encouraged to apply to help decorate the White House or “showcase their talents as a performer at the holiday open houses.” Applications opened Monday for anyone interested in volunteering.

School bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers can participate, but would be responsible for their own lodging, food, and all other expenses.

“Anyone interested in providing a lovely, MAGA-aligned Christmas performance (or not) may apply here,” wrote Ferguson.

“Do with that what you will,” he added.
