‘Stupidity is terminal’: Ridicule slams Nancy Mace minutes after governor run announcement

After months of speculation, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has finally made it official: she’s running for Governor of South Carolina, entering a crowded field of candidates.

Mace, who in her early years of Congress broke with her party and President Donald Trump on a number of cultural issues and condemned Trump over January 6, has more recently cast herself as a “proud transphobe” and crusader for MAGA causes. She has been derided by former staffers as a toxic narcissist and been a perpetual annoyance to her Republican colleagues due to her wild stunt-seeking and unpredictability.

Her announcement video Monday featured footage of Trump praising her as a “fighter,” even though just a few years previously Trump had called her a “grandstanding loser” and endorsed her primary opponent. He has not officially endorsed her this time.

While a number of pro-Trump accounts met the news of her MAGA candidacy for governor with enthusiasm and cheering, it also predictably drew extensive mockery from other commenters on social media.

“Remember when I said ‘stupidity is terminal’. South Carolina will find out if they elect Nancy Mace as governor,” wrote former GOP Virginia congressman and January 6 Committee adviser Denver Riggleman.

“Nancy Mace’s entire right wing grift and pivot has been with the goal of winning South Carolina’s Governorship,” wrote the New Jersey based political analysis account @electionsjoe. “If she doesn’t accomplish this, years of being an absolute clown will have been absolutely pointless.”

“Alaska under Sarah Palin would be looking pretty good right now. But let’s see how this SC experiment goes!” wrote investment banker Evaristus Odinikaeze.

“When Sunday scaries meet Monday blues, you get Nancy Mace running for governor of your state,” wrote Democratic South Carolina congressional candidate Alex Harper.
