One of President Donald Trump’s closest allies recently predicted a power struggle could lead to MAGA tearing itself apart before the next presidential election.
Politico’s Playbook reported Monday that far-right social media personality Laura Loomer — who is occasionally in Trump’s orbit — is now forecasting a turbulent election cycle as the president’s Cabinet jockeys for position atop the 2028 Republican primary polls. Loomer said Vice President JD Vance could be the key person to watch as other officials like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others look to make an impression on the electorate.
“After these next three-and-a-half years, that’s it. There’s not going to be another Trump administration,” Loomer said. “And so there’s nobody who could fill President Trump’s shoes.”

“And if people think that Cabinet members appointed by Trump are going to stay loyal to each other in the race to redefine what a post-Trump Republican Party looks like, they’re out of their mind,” she continued. “You’re going to see Cabinet members turn on each other, and I think that Cabinet members are already posturing through policy decisions and public statements in preparation for their 2028 campaigns.”
Several unnamed White House sources told Politico that while Vance is an early frontrunner, he’s not likely to make any major announcements until after the 2026 midterm elections. Rubio has also kept quiet about his 2028 plans, only telling Fox News host Lara Trump (who is the president’s daughter-in-law) that he felt Vance was doing a good job as vice president and called him a “close friend.”
One of Politico’s sources confided to the publication that they felt Vance was simply biding his time until his campaign announcement, after which he would go on the offensive until he was the last one standing.
“JD will tear through those f—————— while they are all running at 0.5 percent, and I’ll send each one of them a fruit basket after they drop out,” the source said.
