Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) called Donald Trump a “lying scumbag,” multiple times on MSNBC on Saturday morning while leveling accusations that the president had “groped” sexual assault victims of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Brought on by host Ali Velshi to talk about House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) shutting the chamber down early for summer recess to avoid a bipartisan bid to obtain the so-called Epstein files, Smith’s repeated use of “scumbag” for the face of the Republican party seemed to stun the MSNBC host.

Asked about the Epstein files firestorm, Smith replied, “There’s two big things. I mean, one, this really exposes Donald Trump as the lying scumbag that he is.”

“I mean –– and look, there’s a whole bunch of other policy issues, but the fundamental lack of character from Donald Trump is on display here,” he continued. “He lied about the Epstein files for years, trying to use them against Democrats, by making up conspiracy theories that were all lies and, I mean, the lies are across the board. “

“And you’ve seen it this week lying about what President Obama was doing on the Russia investigation. I mean, lies are the cornerstone of how he governs, and we need to expose him on that,” he added. “And then the scumbag piece is, here he is hanging out with Jeffrey Epstein. And by the way, several of the people who were abused and sexually assaulted by Epstein have accused. Donald Trump of groping them and other sexually inappropriate behavior towards them.”

“You know, we’re trying to get the majority back in the House and hopefully the Senate so we can begin to stop just the cascade of horrible things that the Trump administration is doing and here we have Republicans doing the bidding of a lying scumbag and undermining victims of sexual assault by turning their backs on them,” he accused.
