’20 kids dead and you take a vacation?’ Cruz again caught on vacay amid disaster

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was spotted visiting the Parthenon in Greece while deadly floods tore through his state, according to a new Daily Beast report.

When Texas was suffering under a deadly freeze in February 2021 that left millions without power, Cruz skipped town with his family to Cancún. This time, he was in Athens with his wife, Heidi, on Saturday, as more than 20 girls went missing in the rising flood waters of the Guadalupe River.

Cruz posted about “weather conditions” on X just before 9 a.m. on July 4. It was several hours after the worst floods hit the area and the damage had already been done.

Cruz continued posting on X about the disaster, saying, “Heidi and I continue to lift up in prayer the families of the victims,” The San Antonio Current wrote Monday.

“However, it’s unclear whether this was before, during or after surveying the ruins of fifth-century Doric columns,” wrote the Current.

A source sent the Beast a photo of Cruz from the historic ruins. Specifically, while emergency workers searched for the young people from Camp Mystic, Cruz admired the Doric columns.

“He was with his family and a lone security guard. As he walked past us, I simply said ’20 kids dead in Texas and you take a vacation?’” the eyewitness told the Beast. “He sort of grunted and walked on. His wife shot me a dirty look. Then they continued on with their tour guide.”
